Rooftop Worker
£220.00Price
Urban dwellings relied on specialised maintenance workers responsible for clearing upperflues and smoke channels. Period sketches characterise these individuals as familiar visitors who moved freely between households and were welcomed at the start of each cold season.
Their soot-darkened tools were traditionally carried over the shoulder and were considered signs of good fortune when encountered unexpectedly.
